PS1-style horror adventure

Tender is a free adventure title for PC coming from developer Shatter Glass Games. It is a first-person horror game in the style of classic PS1 releases featuring low-poly graphics. It tells the story of a couple hiking in the mountains and the mysteries surrounding their disappearance.

Much like The Man in the Park or The Smiling Man, Tender provides a dark and atmospheric experience complemented by an equally intriguing yet eerie narrative. Players will investigate the scene of the crime, and try to figure out the truth, whatever fate they end up having in the end.

Gone missing

Tender recounts the events surrounding the mysterious disappearance of a Floridian couple hiking in the mountains back in 1991. One man living near where they disappeared was the only suspect. He was interrogated and his home was searched, but no evidence linking him to the crime was ever found. The case remains unsolved to this day until you decide to look into it yourself.

You will primarily conduct your personal investigation inside the home of the suspect who was interviewed back in 1991, as well as the surrounding area where the couple was last seen. Both of them feature various interactable objects for you to take a look at and inspect to help you find clues or leads that the authorities might have missed back then.

Depending on what you find, the game has multiple endings you can unlock. Also, the game gives you the option to change it to a more modern look by toggling the PSX Mode on or off. Just be warned that there are a lot of jumpscares included here. Also, each playthrough is rather short, so you can experience everything in under an hour.

Compelling but short experience

In the sea of horror games taking cues from classic PS1 releases, Tender manages to stand out from the crowd with its mysterious and compelling story. Add to that, the dark and creepy atmosphere, and you have an interesting proposition worth considering. The PSX Mode toggle switch is also a nice touch.
